Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery in Paddock Wood.

At around 5.50pm on Saturday 20 May 2023, two men were in Maidstone Road at its junction with Commercial Road, when they were asked for a lighter by a group of people standing near a bench.

One of the men was then allegedly assaulted by members of the group as they tried to steal a saw he was carrying. It is reported the second man was also assaulted before both victims ran from the scene.

Arrests

Officers were called to the area and, later the same day, arrested two men in connection with the incident. The suspects, aged 19 and 21 years, were subsequently bailed to return to the police station pending further investigation.

PC Owen Rixon, of West Kent CID, said: ‘An investigation is underway into the circumstances and we are urging witnesses or anybody with information to call our appeal line.

‘Motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV are also asked to check for relevant footage between 5.50pm and 9.30pm.’
