Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an investigation into moped thefts in Dover.

During the morning of Monday 22 May 2023, officers were on patrol in the Elvington area of the town when they saw two people acting suspiciously with a moped nearby.

The patrols arrested the two people and took them into custody. The moped, suspected stolen, was seized and further enquiries then led to the recovery of a second moped which was reported to be stolen from Wingrove Hill on 19 May 2023. Numberplates, believed to belong to a number of motorbikes and mopeds reported stolen, were also found.

The two boys from Dover, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

They were released on bail until 20 August while enquiries continue.

Tips for staying safe

  • There are simple steps motorcycle owners could take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft.
  • Lock, chain and cover your bike to make it harder for thieves to window-shop their next target.
  • Park your bike in a secure location, out of sight in a garage or secure back garden.
  • If you have to leave your bike in a public location, try to find somewhere well-lit where it is overlooked and even covered by CCTV.
  • Property mark parts of the bike as it is easier to identify the rightful owner if it gets stolen, but also harder for thieves to sell on.
