A bomb hoax caller who also made sexual threats to a Kent Police call handler has been sent to prison just two days of his offence.
Carl Johnson dialled 999 on Monday 12 June 2023 and claimed he had a homemade bomb.
He called again shortly after and verbally abused a police call handler with sexual threats.
Officers from the Local Policing Team in Thanet went to his Margate home 30 minutes after the second call and arrested him.
The 39-year-old, from Surrey Road, pleaded guilty to making a false bomb threat and sending a threatening communication at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14 June and received a 120-day prison sentence.
Detective Superintendent Alice Ames, from Kent Police’s Force Control Room, said: ‘These hoaxes waste valuable resources that could be used for real, potentially life-threatening situations and we will not tolerate any abuse towards our excellent call handlers.
‘I hope the quick response to these calls, the fast charges, and the prison sentence two days later will discourage anyone who may think of misusing the emergency services in this way.’
