Thanet District Council has been forced to close part of the West Pier in Ramsgate Harbour from because of the reckless and unlawful actions of some youths.

The council say youths have been endangering themselves and others by jumping into the sea from the piers, near to moving boats.

This is unacceptable and must stop say the District Council.

The closure will only affect the area beyond the marina access point on the pier, near the Lighthouse, and we will reopen it as soon as possible, hopefully by early September.

The East Pier will stay open, but will have security staff on duty to prevent any anti-social behaviour and to warn people about the grave risks of tombstoning.

Please do not swim or tombstone in Ramsgate Harbour. It is not only forbidden, but also extremely foolish and life-threatening!
