Gravesend man jailed for ten years after violent knife assault in Dartford

A Gravesend man who carried out a violent knife assault and also subjected children to a terrifying burglary has been jailed for ten years.

Hinzague Hanson was convicted of stabbing a man in a street fight, and for his involvement in a break-in at a property where victims were threatened with weapons.

Hanson, from Gravesend was initially arrested on 18 July 2021, as part of a Kent Police investigation into a serious assault the previous day in Dartford High Street. He had been in a fight with the victim, which was linked to drugs and a dispute involving associates of the man.

Hanson grabbed the victim by his clothing and thrust what was reported to be a flick knife into his abdomen, leaving him with injuries which included damage to a kidney.

He fled the scene and following his arrest, the next day, claimed the victim had initially threatened him with the knife. Hanson insisted he then disarmed him and used the weapon in self-defence. He was charged with unlawful wounding and pleaded guilty at Woolwich Crown Court.

At a separate crown court hearing, held in Essex, the 23-year-old also previously admitted his involvement in an aggravated burglary in Basildon. This happened on 6 July 2021, when a group of men forced their way into a home while a woman and her children were inside.

Hanson was sentenced on Thursday 22 June 2023, to 10 years’ imprisonment (of which two years were for the assault and eight for the burglary).

DC John Carless said: ‘Hanson has tried to make excuses for his actions but has shown himself to be a violent and dangerous individual, seemingly oblivious to the serious harm he has inflicted upon the victim he stabbed. His female victim and children in the burglary were also subjected to a truly terrifying ordeal and left fearing for their lives. He is quite rightly now facing a significant time in prison.’
