Pair jailed for more than 11 years after vicious aggravated burglary in Folkestone

Two men who attacked a victim during an aggravated burglary in Folkestone have been jailed for a total of 11 years.

Darren Griffin and Jack Mayers broke into a flat in Earls Avenue on 18 October 2022 and demanded money from a male occupant.

Burglary

The victim was then repeatedly punched to the face and kicked in the stomach, before threats were made to take one of his children.

After the victim was further assaulted, the pair stole cash and jewellery and left the scene.

Following an investigation by Kent Police, Mayers was arrested two days later and Griffin was detained the following month.

Jailed

Griffin, 30, formerly of an address in Folkestone, admitted burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was jailed for six years at Canterbury Crown Court on 22 June 2023.

Mayers, 28, formerly of an address in Hythe, admitted aggravated burglary and was jailed for five years at the same court hearing.

Detective Constable Alice Henham, Kent Police’s investigating officer, said: ‘Kent Police is determined to tackle violent crime and take offenders off the streets by bringing them before the courts.

‘This offence would have been extremely upsetting for the victim and his family, and I hope the quick conclusion of this investigation and the sentences now imposed give them some comfort.’
