Saturday will be a stormy day, with heavy rain and thunder hitting Kent and many other parts of the country say weather experts from the Met Office.

The worst of the weather is expected to move from parts of England in the morning to northern England and Scotland in the late afternoon and evening. Some places could see as much as 50 mm of rain in a short time, along with hail, lightning and strong winds.

This could cause a lot of problems, such as:

  • Quick flooding of homes and businesses, which could damage buildings and belongings
  • Deep or fast-moving floodwater, which could be life-threatening
  • Delays or cancellations of trains and buses, due to flooding or lightning strikes
  • Difficult driving conditions and road closures, due to spray and sudden flooding
  • Isolation of some communities, if roads are flooded
  • Power cuts and loss of other services, such as internet or phone

Please stay safe and follow the advice of the authorities if you are affected by the storms.
