The possibility of a solar park on land adjoining Otterpool Park is to be explored.

Cabinet members on Folkestone and Hythe District Council have asked Otterpool Park LLP, the master developer for the garden town project, to work with them to present a detailed business plan for consideration.

The proposed site is on Folkestone & Hythe District Council-owned land in Lympne, south-west of the proposed new settlement.

Up to 40% of power demand from Otterpool Park could be met by on-site power generation and storage from solar energy.

A soft market testing exercise will be carried out to explore the benefits of the scheme without entering into any formal commitments.

Leader Cllr Jim Martin said: “Any ideas that can accelerate the transition towards cleaner, more secure and affordable supplies of homegrown energy should be seriously considered.

“We are determined to make Otterpool Park an exemplar in sustainable development so investigating this solar park option fits perfectly with that ambition. I look forward to receiving the findings once the work has been completed.”
