Dover & Deal MP Natalie Elphicke is calling for Dover District Council to launch a crackdown on graffiti and fly-tipping.
Natalie points out that fines have increased from 10th July to up to £500 for graffiti and up to £1000 for fly-tipping.
The MP says graffiti and fly-tipping are damaging both to nature and the environment which creates eyesores and ruins our enjoyment of outdoor spaces.
The new higher level fines would help deter people from fly tipping or scrawling graffiti.
Natalie has also welcomed the abolition of fees for disposing of household DIY waste at recycling centres – this will support people to dispose of their waste responsibly.
She said: “The higher fines provide a real opportunity to the council to crack down on fly tippers and graffiti scrawlers. I hope the council will take strong action to throw the book at people who pollute and fly-tip in our beautiful outdoor spaces in Dover, Deal and the villages.
“It’s good news that the Government is abolishing charges for household DIY waste. This will support residents to take their waste to local tips. Our local household waste and recycling centres at Dover, Deal and Richborough are vital in helping people to responsibly dispose of their waste. It’s another reason why they need to stay open.”
