A collision between an electric bike and a pedestrian on a pavement in Rochester has left an elderly man with serious injuries.

The incident occurred on City Way, at around 7.20am on Thursday 6 July 2023. The e-bike rider, a man in his 40s, was travelling towards St Williams Way and Chatham when he hit the pedestrian, a man in his 90s.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition. The e-bike rider was not injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the collision to come forward.

Investigating why the e-bike rider was on the pavement

PC Marija Medvedeva, of Medway CID, said: ‘This was a serious collision that could have had fatal consequences. We are investigating why the e-bike rider was on the pavement and whether he was riding responsibly. We urge anyone who saw what happened or has any information to contact us.’
