If you own a BMW car in Medway, you might want to take extra precautions to protect it from thieves.
Police have received more than ten reports of steering wheels and their attachments being stolen from BMWs parked overnight in various areas of Medway since 22 June 2023. The thieves break into the cars by smashing the driver’s side window and then remove the steering wheel.
Inspector Daniel Blatter, of the Medway Community Safety Unit, said that these thefts leave victims with a significant repair bill and that police are patrolling the areas to catch the culprits. He also advised BMW owners to park their cars in a well-lit place, on a driveway, or in a garage, when not in use. He urged anyone who sees suspicious activity near a car to call 999.
Police also recommend some other steps to prevent car theft, such as using a steering wheel lock, removing all valuable items overnight and having them security marked, and installing CCTV and sensors around your vehicle or driveway.
