On Friday, 4 August, a fire broke out in a HGV on the Jubilee Way (A2) towards Duke of York’s roundabout in Dover.
Four fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene and used compressed air foam to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported, but one person received first aid for a small cut on their hand. The cause of the fire was unknown at that time.
Kent Police and the Highways Agency also attended to assist with lane closures and traffic management. One lane was reopened later that evening.
The next day, Saturday 5 August, firefighters remained at the scene to monitor the HGV, which still had fuel in its tank.
They used specialist equipment to remove the remaining fuel and worked with National Highways to recover the lorry from lane one of the northbound carriageway. They also completed ventilation of the area.
The road remained closed while the recovery was carried out.
