A suspect has been charged with arson in connection with a fire in Folkestone at the weekend.

Kent Police was called at around 6.45pm on Sunday 13 August 2023 to a report that a fire had been started outside a Co-Op in High Street, Cheriton.

The fire was quickly extinguished by a member of the public and no injuries were reported.

As part of an investigation by East Kent CID, officers made an arrest on the morning of Friday 18 August.

A 41-year-old man from Folkestone was charged with arson and attempted robbery.

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 19 August where he was remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 18 September.
