Police have charged a Sittingbourne man who is suspected of stealing from various shops in the town. The man is facing multiple charges of theft for different incidents of shoplifting.

The suspect allegedly took meat from Morrisons in Milton Regis High Street on Thursday 17 August 2023. On Saturday 19 August, he reportedly stole washing powder and air fresheners from Tesco in Canterbury Road, but dropped them after an off duty police officer confronted him. He was arrested after this incident and taken to custody.

The suspect, aged 38, was charged on Sunday 20 August with five counts of theft. These also included previous reports of shoplifting at Tesco in Canterbury Road on 27 May, as well as Superdrug in the High Street and Sainsbury’s in the Avenue of Remembrance on 31 July. The items stolen included meat and electric toothbrushes.

The suspect appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 August and was released on bail until his next hearing at the same court on 8 December.
