Water pipeline completed Photo: Southern Water

Southern Water has delivered on its promise to build a new water pipeline for the Isle of Sheppey, after a major incident left the island without water for three days last year.

The £7.5 million project, which started in October 2022, was completed in less than a year and involved drilling 500 metres across The Swale, overcoming various soil and shell obstacles.

The new pipeline is the fourth one connecting the island to the mainland, and will improve the water supply and resilience for the residents.

Southern Water also paid compensation to all customers, donated £30,000 to local causes, and organised beach cleans at five locations.

The company held a public vote to decide which community organisations would receive grants from a fund of £18,500.

The top five winners were South East 4×4, Castle Connections, The Salvation Army, Freedom Centre and Curley’s Farm.
