Detectives are seeking witnesses to a robbery that occurred on the August Bank Holiday on Marine Drive in Margate.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm on Monday 28 August 2023, when a man in his 30s was sitting in a shelter on the seafront. He was approached by two men and a woman who started a conversation with him, then assaulted him and stole his mobile phone. The phone was later found discarded.

It’s reported the victim was able to escape with the help of some bystanders who intervened and stopped the attack.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man of no fixed address on suspicion of robbery. They were released on bail until 23 November.

Investigators are appealing for the bystanders who assisted the victim to come forward and provide their statements. They are also asking for anyone who witnessed the robbery or has dash-cam footage from Marine Drive around the time of the incident to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/154872/23.
