Fracas in Folkestone town centre leads to man charged and woman arrested

A man has been charged with carrying out a serious assault in Folkestone town centre.

Emergency services rushed to Sandgate Road following a report of an altercation between a group of people shortly after 9am on Tuesday 12 September 2023.

One man was taken to hospital for treatment and a man and a woman were arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers from Folkestone CID have since charged a man with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, racially aggravated assault and criminal damage to a police vehicle.

The 37-year-old, from Folkestone, appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 15 September and was remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 16 October.

The woman who was arrested has been bailed pending further enquiries.
