Top international practitioners have come together at a Kent spa to offer health and wellness sessions based on a natural system of medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago.

The Best Western Premier Dover Marina Hotel and Spa is set to offer Ayurveda and yoga sessions led by specialists Dr Deepa Patwal and Dr Sharmila Haleem, each of whom has a degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery.

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems and is based on the belief that health and wellness depends on maintaining the delicate balance between the mind, the body and the spirit.

The practice uses specialist massages, diet, detoxification, herbal medicines, yoga, breathing exercises and mediation to help patients live a balanced and healthy life.

“Ayurvedic treatment can help tackle a broad range of problems including anxiety and stress, immune system disorders, gastro-intestinal problems, arthritis and joint stiffness, high blood pressure and migraines,” explained Dr Patwal, who also has a master’s degree in yoga and an MBA in healthcare.

After managing an Ayurvedic practice in India for more than 10 years, the highly experienced consultant moved to the UK and continued her practice in London and Kent, offering consultations, Ayurvedic treatments, yoga sessions and workshops. She has also presented papers and lectured on Ayurveda.

She has now been joined at Dover Marina’s Waterfront Health Club and Spa by Dr Haleem, a Sri Lanka Medical Council-licensed Ayurveda professional who has also trained in yoga and in Panchakarma, another specialist form of treatment.

Dr Haleem has worked with patients all over the world, not only as a doctor but as a lecturer on Ayurveda for the Japanese Ayurveda Institute.

The expanded facilities and new treatments at the spa were launched during a celebration event at which the Dover Marina Hotel and Spa was named as a Best Western Premier, putting it in the top rank of the group’s hotels nationwide.
