Firefighters remain on the scene of a barn fire in Sellinge near Ashford which started last night and affected two open sided barns and a huge haystack – measuring about 200m x 10m x 10m.

The haystack is now being allowed to burn out safely.

It’s believed it will take a long time to put out the fire completely, as firefighters have to separate and wet down parts of the pile. The fire service is expected to be at the scene for several days.

One person suffered a minor burn and was treated by SECAmb paramedics.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

People nearby are advised to keep windows and doors closed because of the smoke.

Residents are being urged to tell friends and family in the area, who may not have internet access.
