Neighbourhood officers in Medway have tracked down a suspected burglar within half an hour of a reported break-in.

The resident of a home in Carnation Road, Strood, reported the burglary to Kent Police at around 7pm on Monday 2 October 2023. Patrols immediately attended the address along with the victim, who had not been at the property at the time of the incident.

Officers from the Medway Neighbourhood Task Force quickly reviewed video footage and searched the nearby area. They spotted a man who matched the description of their suspect in Darnley Road, where he appeared to be looking through the window of another property.

The man, aged 41 from Chatham, was detained by police on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody. The suspect is also linked to an incident of criminal damage to the window of a property in Chelmar Road, Chatham, which is reported to have occurred on 22 September 2023. Enquiries regarding both incidents remain ongoing with the force’s Criminal Investigation Department.
