Police in Kent are supporting the latest campaign to target speeding motorists.
The NPCC Speed Campaign started on Monday 16 October 2023 and will run until Sunday 29 October 2023 and is aimed at reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on the road.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit, including the Road Safety Unit will be targeting those drivers found to be exceeding the speed limit.
They will also be supported by volunteers from the Special Constabulary as well as Community Speedwatch at hotspot areas around the county.
Chief Inspector Craig West, Head of the Roads Policing Unit said: ‘This time of year we do see an increase in collisions on Kent’s roads and there are factors such as darker mornings and evenings and wetter roads.
‘But, speeding is one of the ‘fatal factors’ that contribute to the highest number of road collisions resulting in deaths and serious injuries, along with not wearing a seatbelt, driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, and using a mobile phone or other electronic device at the wheel.
‘Tackling each of these offences is a priority for Kent Police as part of our commitment to Kent County Council’s Vision Zero strategy, which aims to drastically reduce the number of serious and fatal collisions on our roads, and we will continue to take action against drivers who break the law as part of our daily business.
‘Our message to all motorists is a simple one – protect yourself and others by sticking to the speed limit.’
