A football spectator has been arrested on suspicion of making homophobic comments at a Gillingham FC home match.
The 29-year-old local man is alleged to have made offensive remarks during the League Two game against Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday 7 October 2023.
He was arrested at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday 21 October and later released on bail pending further enquiries. His bail conditions prevent him from attending any Gillingham FC fixtures whilst the investigation is ongoing.
The homophobic comments were allegedly made from the Rainham End whilst an MK Dons player was receiving treatment on the pitch.

Superintendent Rhiannan Pepper of Kent Police said: ‘Gillingham FC actively encourages its supporters to report hate-related abuse and we worked closely with the club to identify and arrest the suspect in this case.
‘There is no place in football or society in general for such offensive comments and anyone proven to be responsible can expect to receive a criminal record and be banned from attending future matches.’
