The charges relate to an investigation by local officers into a suspected bulk shoplifting incident at the Ashford designer outlet in which people reportedly carried goods between businesses and a vehicle parked in the car park during the afternoon of Thursday 19 October 2023.

It was reported that designer clothes and footwear were stolen from retailers during the incident.

A second vehicle, believed to be linked to the shoplifting, was seen travelling on the A2 later the same day and stopped by officers on the motorway slip road at Darenth Interchange.

Two men, a 19-year-old man and one woman from London and the West Midlands were arrested and subsequently charged with theft and conspiracy to steal.

All four suspects appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 21 October.

The 27 and 28-year-old men and the woman aged 26 were remanded in custody. A man aged 19 was released on bail. The case will next be heard at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 17 November.

The charges coincided with Safer Business Action Week, a nationwide week of action coordinated by the National Business Crime Centre.
