A campaign to reduce the amount of people killed and seriously injured on Kent’s roads continues this week with officers from the Roads Policing Unit supporting a national campaign targeting uninsured drivers.
Operation Drive Insured runs between Monday 20 November and Sunday 26 November 2023 and is supported by the National Police Chief’s Council.
It will see officers from the Roads Policing Unit deployed to known hotspot areas, stopping vehicles to check they are being driven with the correct insurance policies.
Each year, more than 130 people lose their lives on the country’s roads due to uninsured drivers. More than 123,000 uninsured vehicles were seized last year.
Chief Inspector Craig West, Head of the Roads Policing Unit said:
‘Law abiding motorists are put at unnecessary risk by those who flout the law and we are committed to repeatedly targeting uninsured drivers to make the roads safer.
‘In addition to the financial implications those who drive uninsured are often linked to other criminality and we are keen to get these vehicles off our road network.
‘Our message is simple, if driving uninsured be prepared to have your vehicle seized, risk it being crushed and face significant fines and points on your licence.’
