A Gravesend based lecturer has been named as runner-up in a prestigious national award for their work inspiring the next generation of professional painters and decorators.

North Kent College’s Painting and Decorating Technician Joe Love took second place in the Painting and Decorator Mentor of the Year category, run by paint supplies company Purdy.

Purdy’s Mentor of the Year competition gives those learning the trade the chance to nominate the people that are having a positive influence on them and their learning.

Joe, who received a cheque for £500, expressed his delight at the award, saying:

“I’m truly honoured to place the runner-up spot for the ‘Purdy Mentor of the Year’ in the lecturer category. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to my incredible students for their trust and support. Guiding them through their academic journey is a privilege.

“This recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of mentorship, further fuelling my commitment to continue inspiring and empowering each student as they navigate their path to success.”

North Kent College runs a number of construction courses, all based at its Gravesend campus.

There are dedicated facilities for Brickwork, Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Multitrades, and all courses are delivered in workshop environments that replicate the experience of working in the chosen industry.

The College also has strong links with local employers, businesses and trade outlets, and great record for getting students on to apprenticeships with reputable companies.

Additionally all staff are from the industry, highly qualified, and use their experience to give the best support and start to a student’s future.
