Kent faces first snowfall of the year, forecasters warn

Previous years have seen cars abandoned on roads crossing the North DownsLibrary image

Icy patches and wintry showers could affect some areas of Kent on Monday morning according to weather forecasters at the Met Office.

Sleet and snow showers are expected to move in from the east later on Sunday night along with temperatures dropping to zero. With these wintry showers, and also wet surfaces after the recent wet weather, some icy patches are likely on untreated surfaces.

Additionally a few snow showers could turn quite heavy but will probably only affect a narrow zone. However some places, mainly over the North Downs and on grassy surfaces, could see as much as 3cm.
