A serial shoplifter who attacked two police officers while in custody has been sentenced to more than four months in prison.

Lewis O’Brian, 33, from Sittingbourne, admitted to stealing alcohol, food and sweets, from shops in Swale, Chatham and Rainham between November 2023 and January 2024.

He was arrested on 7 January after being identified by the North Kent Victim Based Crime Team, who linked him to seven theft offences.

While in custody, O’Brian punched and kicked two police officers, causing them minor injuries. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker at Medway Magistrates’ Court and was jailed for 130 days.
