Ashford High Street fracas sees suspected shoplifter and drunk woman arrested

A suspected shoplifter has been arrested and stolen goods recovered by police in Ashford. Officers were called to the town centre at around 4.45pm on Tuesday 16 January following reports of a disturbance in the High Street.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft and items of clothing believed to have been stolen were seized as part of an ongoing investigation.

Officers at the scene also arrested a 41-year-old woman on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Both women remain in custody while enquiries continue.
