Canterbury City Council is investigating a cyber incident and is liaising closely with the experts at the National Cyber Security Centre.

The council team reports it is taking a precautionary approach while investigating the problem and will be seeking to minimise any disruption to their services.

They say the email system and website have been available throughout although some parts of the website may not quite work as intended.

Initial investigations do not suggest customer data has been accessed, but as is best practice in these situations the council are currently engaging a National Cyber Security Centre-approved contractor to examine their systems to provide that assurity.

A recently published article also claims two other councils in Kent are reported to be on a list of ongoing cyber incidents.
