Celebrating its fifth birthday in 2024, the Dover Lotto has raised £205,581 for local charities and community groups across the district.
Since it was launched by Dover District Council (DDC) with its first draw on 22 January 2019, over 140 local good causes have benefited from a regular income. The most successful good causes are raising over £1,500 a year through ticket sales.
The Dover District Lotto is an online community lottery with no upfront costs for local good causes to join. It is designed to help local charities and community groups to create new fundraising opportunities and enable year-round fundraising in a safe and effective way.
Players can choose from 140 registered good causes to support in the Dover district with their ticket purchase. For every £1 spent on the Dover District Lotto, 50p goes directly to the chosen local good cause and a further 10p to the Dover District Council Community Grants Fund. That’s more than double what the National Lottery gives!
There are weekly cash prizes to be won in the draw every Saturday evening up to the value of the £25,000 jackpot, and with 50:1 odds of winning a prize you’ll find a bit of fun at the same time as knowing you’re really helping your local community.
Players of the Dover Lotto have won £76,150 in cash prizes over the last five years, including Suzanne Letchford from Whitfield who won the £25,000 jackpot in December 2022.
Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, DDC’s Cabinet Member for Community, said:
“The Dover Lotto has been a fantastic success, complementing DDC’s existing community grants programme, and providing local good causes with a new way to bolster support and raise funds.”
