Neighbourhood officers have responded swiftly to arrest a pair of suspected thieves following a call from a Sheerness supermarket worker. On Monday 22 January 2024, two men entered Tesco in Bridge Road and, after they had left, bottles of spirits worth more than £150 were reported stolen.

The local beat officer arrives on the scene, viewed CCTV footage and took down details of the incident from a member of staff.

Later that morning, it is alleged the same men returned to the shop and the neighbourhood officer was immediately contacted by a store employee. The constable promptly arrived at the premises where the men were arrested.

The pair, both from Sheerness were later charged by investigators from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team with two separate thefts at Tesco.

The pair were additionally charged with the theft of pet food valued at more than £300 from a shop in Queensway on three separate occasions, between 12 and 24 December 2023. The 48-year old man was also charged with criminal damage to a container at the Queensway premises. He and a man aged 61 were remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 23 January.
