A suspected thief has been arrested after he ran from a bakery in front of officers on foot patrol in Chatham.

The man was seen leaving the High Street business carrying sandwiches and cakes at around 3pm on Monday 22 January 2024. Local constables, who were working in the town centre during Neighbourhood Policing Week, suspected the food was stolen and detained the man following a short foot chase. The 43-year-old, of no fixed address, was later recalled to prison over unconnected matters.

Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action runs until Friday 26 January and seeks to highlight the vital work carried out by neighbourhood officers, police community supports officers and volunteers.
