A suspect is to appear at court charged with robbing a pensioner in Darenth. At around 11.10am on Friday 19 January 2024, a woman in her 70s was walking along a footpath near Gore Road when she passed a person coming in the opposite direction.

It is reported she was then assaulted from behind and fell to the ground as her handbag was snatched. The victim walked to a hospital near to the scene and the police were alerted to the incident. The victim ensured her bank cards were blocked and it is alleged six attempts were then made to use them at shops in Gravesend later the same day.

At 12.30pm on Tuesday 23 January, officers from Kent Police’s Proactive Targeting Team arrested a 17-year-old boy in Gravesend. The constables also seized some cannabis. The teenager from Dartford was later charged by investigators from the Kent Crime Squad with robbery, six frauds and one count of possessing a class B drug. He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 24 January.
