Three suspected shoplifters have been charged on the same day following work by officers in east Kent.

Canterbury’s Victim Based Crime Team secured the charges following an investigation into alleged shoplifting offences in Canterbury, Margate and Herne Bay between October 2023 and January 2024.

Their enquiries led to charges being brought in three separate cases on Tuesday 23 January 2024.

• Ryan Davies, 32, from Canterbury, was charged with four counts of theft of alcohol worth more than £400 from shops in Canterbury. He admitted all four offences before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 24 January and was jailed for eight weeks.

• An 18 woman from Canterbury, was charged with stealing alcohol, meat and sweets from supermarkets in Canterbury and Margate. She was conditionally bailed to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 15 March 2024.

• A woman aged 37, from Herne Bay, was charged with stealing £200 worth of meat from a supermarket in Herne Bay. She is next due before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 26 March.
