Folkestone’s Road of Remembrance is staying shut to allow the damage caused by Saturday’s landslip to be fully investigated.
Engineers from Kent County Council (KCC) and Folkestone & Hythe District Council are working to assess both the damage to the road and to ensure the stability of the steep bank above the road.
A Kent Highways team and tree surgeons were called in the early hours of Saturday to clear fallen trees which had been reported to be blocking the road. After they arrived it was discovered that the fallen trees appeared to have been caused by a landslip and the removal of the trees had to be halted until further investigation was carried out.
A KCC spokesperson said:
“Until the extent of the damage caused is fully established we must keep the road closed to ensure public safety.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank residents and businesses for their understanding and patience.”
