A Tonbridge shoplifting suspect has been tracked down and arrested at a railway station with the assistance of CCTV operators after staff at Sainsbury’s in the Angel Centre reported three thefts of meat worth around £450 between Saturday 3 February and Monday 26 February 2024.
A constable from the town’s community safety unit was on patrol on 26 February, when he was advised by CCTV operators that a suspect was at Tonbridge railway station.
He quickly made his way to a platform waiting room and a man was arrested as well as seizing a quantity of meat products.
A man from Marden was later charged by investigators from the Tonbridge Victim Based Crime Team with three counts of theft. The 53-year-old was bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 13 March.
