Five arrests were made during a multi-agency operation to target business crime in Gravesend.
The operation, which ran between 11 and 17 March 2024, involved officers from Gravesham’s Community Safety Unit, Gravesham Borough Council and business crime reduction partnership G-Safe.
During the week officers from Kent Police made five arrests after people were suspects of shoplifting. Two of those arrested were later charged with theft.
A 41-year-old from Meopham, has been charged with theft. He was bailed upon charge and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 4 April 2024 and a woman aged 33 from Gravesend, was also charged with theft. She was bailed upon charge and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 12 April.
Four electronic scooters were also seized from riders under 18 after they were seen riding the vehicles in the town centre.
More than £1,200 worth of goods were also recovered by officers after they were suspected of being stolen. These items included food and electronics.
Inspector Kirsty Dunne, of Gravesham’s Community Safety Unit said:
‘Business crime is not a victimless crime. Targeting businesses can not only lead to loss of profit but also affects staff within the premises.
‘They can be left feeling worried and intimidated when all they want to do is to serve their community. This week of action not only allowed us and partners to make a positive impact in terms of results but gave us the opportunity to talk to residents and businesses and take forward any concerns raised.’
