Two men have been charged after a Medway school suffered significant damage from a reported attempt to steal lead from its roof.

On Friday 27 October 2023, patrols were called to the premises in Luton Road, Chatham after local residents heard suspicious noises coming from the building. They quickly arrived at the scene and with the help of the police helicopter, two men were located and detained. They were both bailed pending further enquiries into the incident.

Repairs to the roof where damage had allegedly been caused to the tiles and lead is expected to cost around £6,300.

On Saturday 13 April 2024, a man from Salisbury, Wiltshire and a Gillingham man were both charged with theft and criminal damage. Mr Hughes, 22, and Mr Day, 21, were both bailed to a hearing at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 21 June.
