Swale Police investigators continue to target shop theft with multiple charges for the latest suspect.

Kent Police reported that between Thursday 15 February and Sunday 28 April 2024, they received reports of items including alcohol, meat, washing products, clothing and cosmetics stolen from seven separate stores in Sheerness.

The property taken from the businesses, in the High Street, Bridge Road and Millennium Way, was valued at more than £2,400.

Met Police tip-off

On Sunday 28 April, an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer reported a suspicious incident in the town centre to two local constables, who were on patrol on the area. A man was subsequently stopped, arrested and taken into custody.

A man from Sheerness was later charged with 10 thefts, by investigators from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team. He was also charged with criminal damage to a police station cell. The 41-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 April.
