A man from Stanford South, who fly-tipped and burned waste along the road where he lives, has been handed a community order after dumping various items on three separate occasions between 11 June and 18 August 2023.
He also admitted to setting alight two of those fly-tips. Local people reportedly complained of the “thick black smoke” and the negative impact of his actions.
At Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 23 April 2024, the 53-year-old was ordered to pay court fines and costs totalling £464 and also handed a 12-month community order requiring him to undertake 80 hours of unpaid work.
A Folkestone & Hythe District Council spokesperson said: “There is absolutely no excuse for fly-tipping or burning waste. It’s anti-social, bad for our environment and comes at a price.
“The carpet, sofa, and upholstery dumped could have been disposed of considerately using our bulky waste collection service or by visiting one of Kent County Council’s household waste recycling centres.”
