On Sunday 2 June 2024 the William Harvey Commemoration Ceremony will take place in Folkestone. World famous physician Harvey discovered the circulatory system in 1628.
William Harvey was born in Folkestone on 1st (or possibly) 2nd April 1578 and died on 3 June 1657. Each
year, around the time of his death, a thanksgiving service is held where the Town Mayor, Councillors, Town Clerk, members of the Harveian Society of London, the Old Harveians and representatives from local schools lay Chaplets in honour of William Harvey’s influential work.
This year the event will be slightly different; attendees will process from the William Harvey Statue on the Leas through St Mary & St Eanswythe’s Churchyard and into Church Street, where the procession will pause for a short prayer at the plaque that is placed above the gateway identifying the approximate site of the family home where William Harvey was born.
