Ramsgate Police

Lock your cars is the message from Ramsgate Police after an arrest was made and a bag of suspected stolen goods recovered in the Newington Road area.

In the early hours of Thursday 23 May 2024, officers were in Newington Road when they saw a man walking down the street and became suspicious as he seemed to try to avoid them. A bag was then found discarded nearby which contained items including sunglasses, a tyre pump, charger cables, money and an air freshener. Officers tracked down the man and he was arrested in connection with the findings.

The 24-year-old man of no fixed address, who was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, theft from a vehicle and possession of Class B drugs, has since been bailed while enquiries continue.

Anyone who believes items might have been stolen from their vehicles in the area are asked to report it using the Kent Police website quoting 46/84117/24.

Jim Woodward, of Thanet Community Safety Unit said:

‘We suspect that the recovered items were taken from cars and we are reminding residents to ensure they check their vehicles are locked before leaving them unattended. Remove any valuables, even loose change. Help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime by keeping your vehicles and belongings secure.’
