On Friday 1 June 2024, it was reported that a man had approached a woman in Market Way earlier that evening and had attempted conversation, before touching the woman inappropriately over her clothing. The man then left.

A report was then received on Monday 3 June that a man had made inappropriate physical contact with a woman in Suffolk Road, before leaving the scene and on Monday 10 June, a man was reported to have approached a woman in Hales Drive and attempted to touch her. The woman was able to prevent him from touching her and the man left the area.

Following an investigation, an arrest was made on Wednesday 12 June by officers from Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit who were on patrol in the city.

On Friday 14 June, officers from Kent Police’s Vulnerability Investigation Team charged a 19-year-old man with two counts of sexual assault and an attempted sexual assault, in connection with the reports.

He was also charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of indecent exposure and an attempted sexual assault relating to offences reported in December 2023.

The man from Canterbury, was remanded in custody to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court later in the day.
