Detectives are seeking witnesses following a violent assault in a New Ash Green car park around 6.50pm on Tuesday 7 May 2024.

The reported incident occurred after the victim had asked a man to move out of the way so he could safely access a car parking space off Centre Road. Once the car was parked the suspect opened a door and attacked the victim. The assault continued outside of the vehicle, where the man was struck several times with a metal pole and suffered multiple injuries to his head and arm before he was able to disarm his attacker. The victim then drove from the scene.

Investigating officers have since arrested a 40-year-old man from Dunton Green, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He is currently bailed, with conditions, to return to a police station on 1 August.

The investigation has also included the review of CCTV and detectives believe there may have been several other people in the car park, who may have seen the assault taking place.

DC Katie Gregory said:

‘Whilst we have made significant progress with this investigation, we believe there are important witnesses to this assault who have yet to contact the police. I would urge anyone with information to call us on 01622 604100, quoting reference 4674445/24.’
