The campaign against retail crime has continued with 58 charges for Swale shoplifting suspects during June 2024. Local beat officers and response patrols have been relentlessly targeting those who steal from shops and businesses in Sheerness, Sittingbourne and Faversham.

All those detained were interviewed and charged by investigators from the district’s Victim Based Crime Team, with the majority being remanded to a court hearing. In addition to multiple counts of theft, there were four charges for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order over the same period.

In the final weekend of the month, a suspect was arrested in Sheerness after alcohol, meat and cosmetic items were allegedly stolen on separate occasions from supermarkets in the town. The goods from Morrisons, Aldi, Superdrug and Savers, had a total value of £589. A 32-year-old man from the town was later charged with four counts of theft. He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 1 July and was conditionally bailed to a hearing at the same court on Friday 9 August.
