Several police officers were injured following a disturbance in Hawkhurst during the evening of Thursday 4 July 2023.

Charges have been brought against a suspect from the village who was located in an outbuilding off Woodbury Road.

It is alleged as the man was being arrested, a constable was punched in the face. The suspect was detained and taken to hospital for treatment to a leg injury. On arrival at the hospital it is reported further attempts were made to kick and headbutt police, with one officer bitten on the hand.

A man aged 21 from Hawkhurst was later taken into custody and charged with four counts of assaulting an emergency worker. He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 6 July and was granted conditional bail. His next hearing will be at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 26 July.
