Arrests made in connection with vehicle crime in Sandwich

During the early hours of Thursday 1 August 2024, patrols were on duty in Sandwich when they received a report that people had been seen tampering with vehicles before trying to get into others parked on the Cattle Market.

Police worked together with CCTV operators and a short time later, two people were arrested. Officers also recovered a suspected stolen jacket and quantities of cannabis and suspected cocaine. Two vehicles were seized, one of which was reported to have been stolen during the previous evening.

A man aged 20, from Dover, was later charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a vehicle, driving without insurance, possession of a class B drug and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Friday 2 August and was remanded. The case will next be heard at a court to be confirmed, in September.

A 21-year-old man from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal, theft, and possessing class A drugs, and was released on bail pending further enquiries.
