Runners from across Kent and even further afield will be busy training for the Folkestone Half Marathon which takes place in September.

Ray Johnson, Race Director, said:

“The Folkestone Half Marathon is a great race – we have an amazing atmosphere, the route is great, especially with the last hurdle up Remembrance Hill, now known as ‘The sting in the tail’. We get a good variety of people, of all ages and levels of experience too. I am particularly pleased we have the children’s race take place just before the half marathon starts – a great way to get children involved and maybe one day aiming for the half marathon.”

“One of my favourite moments is from a few years ago when an 82-year-old lady took part. It took her over three and a half hours, but she competed it, crossed the finish line and gained her medal. She raised £2,800 for Pilgrims Hospice. A brilliant achievement for her.”

The annual event is supported each year by the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust.

Ray said:

“The Trust has been very supportive over the years – not only for the half marathon but also for the Folkestone Coastal 10K, another popular race held in Folkestone. We are exceptionally grateful and are pleased that we can help support local charities together.”

If you would like to take part in this year’s event, take a look at the Rotary Club’s website and register your interest.
