Blooming marvellous gardeners shine in Folkestone and Hythe district

Best front garden winner – Florence Dray of Dymchurch

Blooming marvellous council tenants and leaseholders have been recognised for their outstanding efforts at the annual gardening competition.

Despite challenging weather this year, green-fingered tenants and leaseholders in the district have braved the rain and cold to nurture their beloved gardens.

The stunning green spaces submitted by F&HDC tenants and leaseholders were visited in July and certificates and prizes were given to the winners earlier this month (August).

The prizes were donated by sponsors Mears, Swale Heating, Grovewell Garden Centre, Folkestone & Hythe District Council grounds maintenance team, Cllr David Godfrey and Cllr Jim Martin.

The event is run and managed by Strategic Tenant Advisory Panel (STAP) members Gillian Jenkins and Sharon Gasson, both of whom also judge the event.

Judges were incredibly impressed by the standard of entries, with particular praise being given to the increase in entrants for the communal and community garden category this year.

Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said:

“I’d like to thank all tenants who took the time to enter this year’s garden competition.

“It is fantastic to see households coming together to create and nurture their individual, communal and community gardens.”
