Dangerous drivers were reported and a car was seized by police officers tackling nuisance motorists in Folkestone and Hythe.

Road checks at a number of locations on Friday 9 August 2024, were targeted over concerns raised by the community.

A total of 25 traffic offence reports were handed out to drivers for a range of offences including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone at the wheel. Four fixed-penalty notices were also given to lorries parked dangerously and a further 17 people were spoken to about the manner of their driving.

Checks were carried out in Middelburg SquareShorncliffe RoadCheriton RoadSandgate RoadPrinces ParadeSandgate Esplanade and Seabrook Road, as well as other locations across the district.

In Seabrook Road, two people were arrested for possession of a knife and suspected cannabis, following a stop of a car. The vehicle was not insured and was therefore seized by police.

Detective Inspector James Wyles said:

‘Driving safely and keeping vehicles in good working order is the responsibility of all road users. It is important all year round, including the summer months when roads may be busier in seaside areas.

‘We will continue to carry out operations of this kind to ensure the district is safe for motorists and pedestrians alike, and I urge everyone to consider others when out on the roads.’
